When you’re too busy to think about dinner, how about using dill dip as a base for tuna and chicken salads. Open a pouch of tuna or a can of chicken, add a few spoons of dill dip to it and you have an excellent meat based salad for sandwiches or just scooped on top lettuce to make a wrap!. Quick, easy and delicious!

Ingredients to make Creamy Dill Dip

  • Sour Cream – for creaminess and tang.
  • Mayonnaise – for smooth flavor and creaminess. The fat helps bind the other ingredients.
  • Fresh Dill – if you can find it, fresh dill is the way to go. Dried dill weed ( in the spice section of the supermarket) is a great substitute.
  • Parsley Flakes – for herb flavor that compliments the dill.
  • Minced Onion Flakes – for depth of flavor and mild onion taste.
  • Chives – compliments the dill and parsley without overpowering.
  • Cayenne – only a pinch adds a tiny bit of heat.

Mayonnaise and Added Salt

The saltiness of mayonnaise will vary by the brand you use and whether it’s full-fat or light mayonnaise. I find that light mayonnaise tastes saltier than full-fat so if using light mayonnaise, I’ll add less salt to the dip. With this in mind, you might want to hold off on adding any salt until you taste the final dip.

Flavor Variations

One of the best things about this homemade dill dip is it’s totally versatile. While you don’t want to overpower the dill, you can easily make it your own by adding garlic powder or garlic salt, black pepper or fresh herbs instead of the dried variety.

Another idea is to substitute plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream for loads of tang. Softened cream cheese can easily take the place of the mayonnaise. The dip will firm up a little in the fridge, but tastes so creamy and delicious.

How To Make Easy Creamy Dill Dip

Start by whisking the mayonnaise and sour cream in a medium bowl. We love a mini-whisk for this. Add the dry ingredients and stir until everything is well combined.

Cover the bowl and chill for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors blend and minced onion to rehydrate.

How To Serve Homemade Dill Dip

There are lots of different ways to serve this dip, Our favorite is to set the dip bowl on a platter piled high with fresh vegetables like carrot sticks, celery sticks, strips of bell peppers, cherry tomatoes and broccoli florets. For the crowd that doesn’t love the raw veggies, crackers, potato chips and pretzels are amazing!

Ways to Use Creamy Dill Dip:

  • Use dill dip instead of mayonnaise to make tuna and chicken salad.
  • Mix dill dip into cooked egg yolks for fresh and zesty deviled eggs.
  • Spoon over fresh cooked fish for zippy flavor.
  • Add a few tablespoons of milk, stir and pour over green salad as a dressing.
  • Make dill dip the centerpiece of your deli tray to use as a spread for bread or buns.
  • Use dill dip instead of eggs to dip and coat chicken before breading.
  • Drizzle dill dip over baked potatoes for an herb flavored twist.
